The Dinner Challenge

Saturday night three friends are coming over for dinner and DVDs (read: an effort to drink less and save money).

One is: vegetarian
One is: no pork or shellfish
One is: no tomatoes or pork but wouldn't mind risotto
I am: eat everything apart from cooked carrots

Any ideas (just two courses)? I'm thinking a vegetable risotto with mini garlic bread loaves and maybe poached pears served with brie.

Honey... I do eat cooked tomatoes! I can alway pick out raw ones anyway... At least I'm not the only that doesn't eat pork ;-)

You're a brilliant cook; anything you make will be spectacular!

I'll bring the wine! That's hard to we both like red and I. likes rose or white! We'll go through a couple bottles anyway ;-)

Rocket & soft goats' cheese gnocchi with garlic cream is one of the most impressive dishes (that is vegetarian, but interesting enough for the meat eaters) I've made for a dinner party because it seems complicated but isn't really, recipe is here:

I think we can all agree on rose.

Garlic cream sounds wonderful! Gnocchi is one of my favourite dishes so I will definitely be trying this - thank you!

Oh and dinner was roast vegetable (pumpkin, zucchini and mushroom) risotto. The tarts of caramalised pear, brie and walnuts didn't eventuate as the tarts burnt in the oven *blush*

But we watched Wall Street (my first time) and it was nice to have a quiet one chez moi.

That sounds good, but sorry to hear about the unfortunate tart incident. My favorite risotto dish involves goat cheese and wild mushrooms, and for the non-vegetarian, a bit of prosciutto to garnish.

Jill - goat's cheese and mushrooms are such a great combination (on pizza too, or lasagne). And I love prosciutto in risotto (I love prosciutto full stop) - damn vegetarians/non-pork eaters!
